How Classic ADU Builders Was Born in Placentia

We started Classic ADU Builders in 2015 because we kept hearing the same story from Placentia homeowners. They wanted a rental unit in the backyard or a comfortable space for aging parents, and they’d tell us about quotes that ballooned after the first payment, contractors who stopped returning calls once the concrete was poured, or crews that showed up with no idea what the local building department required. One homeowner in the Alta Vista neighborhood had paid for a full foundation before anyone realized the plans didn’t account for the slope of their lot. The contractor walked away. The homeowner was left with a hole in the ground and a folder full of promises that meant nothing. We couldn’t keep watching that happen in our own city. The whole point of an ADU is that it makes life easier and more affordable, not that it becomes a source of stress and regret. We made a simple promise when we started: show up when we say we will, price the job honestly before work begins, and stay until the final inspection passes. Eleven years later, that’s still how we run every project from Placentia to Anaheim and Fullerton.

Our Founder’s Personal Connection to the ADU Trade

The first time we walked onto a foundation we’d helped form and felt the wood frame go up around us, it smelled like fresh-cut lumber and damp earth from the morning fog that rolls through Orange County. That smell still gets to us every single time. We came into this trade not through a family business or a classroom but through years of construction work where we watched the gap between what homeowners expected and what contractors delivered. We spent over a decade in building and remodeling before ADUs became the focus, and during that time we learned to listen to what a house is saying. Old framing tells you where the moisture has been. The way a yard drains tells you where the foundation should sit. The angle of the afternoon sun tells you where windows belong. These aren’t things you learn from a manual. They come from standing on job sites in Brea and Yorba Linda and Villa Park, watching how each microclimate behaves, and figuring out what works. When California started making ADUs easier to permit, it felt like the work we’d been doing for years suddenly had a name. What gets us out of bed is the moment a homeowner walks into their finished unit for the first time and sees the light coming through the window the way we pictured it months earlier at the design meeting. If we weren’t doing this, we’d probably still be building something. We can’t imagine a life that doesn’t involve making things right with our hands.

Meet Our Team – The Person Behind Every Job

The owner and founder of Classic ADU Builders has spent more than a decade in residential construction across Orange County. That experience spans foundations, framing, roofing, finish carpentry, and the specific art of designing accessory dwelling units that feel like they were always meant to be there. Our approach to training is straightforward: we learn by building, and we pass that knowledge along on every job site. You won’t be handed off to a rotating cast of strangers. The person who walks your property and measures your setbacks is the same person thinking about your project at the end of the day. Away from the job site, the owner is a devoted follower of local high school football and a firm believer that Friday night lights in Placentia and Fullerton are one of the best things about living here. That commitment to the community carries into the work: if we’re going to build something in your backyard, we’re building it like we’d build it for our own family. That’s not a slogan. It’s the standard.

Our Promise to Placentia Homeowners

We give every homeowner a written line-item quote before we schedule the first day of work. You’ll see exactly what each part of the project costs, and that number doesn’t change unless you change the scope. No one has ever come back to us and said the final invoice looked different from the estimate, and we work hard to keep it that way. We use quality materials because we know an ADU in Placentia has to handle real summer heat and the occasional heavy rain. Cutting corners on flashing or cheaping out on roof underlayment means trouble two years later, and that’s not how we want our name remembered. Finally, we stand behind our work with a workmanship warranty. If something we built fails because of how we built it, we fix it. Simple as that. Permits get pulled, inspections get scheduled, and we don’t call a job done until the building department says it’s done.

Our Credentials

  • State-licensed: Every pro working under our name is required to hold the license their state requires for the work they perform.
  • Insured & bonded: We maintain coverage because it protects you and your property through every phase of the build.
  • Local experience: We’ve been serving Orange County since 2015, with a focus on the cities where ADU demand is strongest: Placentia, Fullerton, Yorba Linda, Brea, Anaheim, Orange, and beyond.
  • Strong local reputation: Our work comes mostly from referrals by homeowners we’ve already built for, which tells us we’re doing something right.

Licensing matters because it means your project is held to a standard that’s set by the state, not by our mood on a Tuesday. Insurance and bonding matter because construction is physical work and accidents, while rare, shouldn’t become your financial burden. Local experience matters because knowing Placentia’s specific building department preferences and how the city reviews plans saves you weeks of back-and-forth.

Rooted in Placentia

Placentia is home. We know the streets that flood where the ground dips near the 57, the neighborhoods where the older houses have shallower sewer laterals, and the blocks in the Golden State tract where garages were built tight to the property line. We’ve walked the neighborhoods around Tri-City Park and driven through the hillside streets where ADU views matter almost as much as square footage. When you call us, you’re not calling someone who has to look up where Placentia is on a map. You’re calling neighbors who know this city because we live and build here every day.
